Jennifer Quilty, RMT

My practice specializes in massage therapy techniques that help treat many health challenges women experience, from perinatal care to autoimmune conditions such as arthritis. Massage therapy can also help alleviate many chronic and acute symptoms – including chest and thorax tension, TMJ dysfunction, headaches and stress – that afflict many busy professionals, especially women.

SERVICES

Pre- and post- natal massage

During pregnancy, the body’s posture changes dramatically. Hormones released during pregnancy cause changes to ligaments, joints and muscles. Massage therapy relieves aches and pains these changes can cause, assists with muscular balance and eases the sympathetic nervous system. Improving overall posture and muscle balance during pregnancy – especially in the final stages – can help the baby maintain a healthy position and support a positive birthing experience. Therapeutic massage is safe at all stages of pregnancy and special equipment and positions make it easy and comfortable too.

Breast and bottle feeding support

Both breastfeeding and bottle feeding can keep the body stuck in a single or awkward position for too long, causing aches, strains or tension. This discomfort can spoil some of the most intimate moments between parent and baby. Massage therapy can ease muscle pain and release tension in the chest and neck, while manual lymphatic drainage can reduce fluid congestion, helping to prevent and alleviate clogged ducts that can lead to mastitis.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage is a gentle, non-invasive massage technique that reduces swelling and enhances functioning of the immune system. The therapy works by gently stretching the skin and encouraging a draining effect in the tissues. This therapy is ideal for situations where the lymphatic system has been affected by surgery, such as a mastectomy, or by radiation treatments often used to treat cancer.

Infant Massage

Babies can develop muscular tension, similar to adults. Massage Therapy can be helpful for babies and can foster healthy development. Full body massage can be used to calm your babies nervous system. Focused on abdominal massage can be used for babies dealing with constipation or colic.

Therapy for chronic conditions

Massage therapy supports treatment of many chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus, polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis – all of which predominantly or exclusively affect women. Therapeutic massage customized to the specific condition and the experience of the client relieves symptoms including, muscle stiffness, swelling and pain.

General massage therapy

All massage therapy begins with a detailed interview and assessment so that treatment can be tailored to each client’s needs and health history. Massage techniques reduce tension and restrictions in soft tissues and can calm the nervous system. Therapy can also reduce high stress levels - often the result of busy schedules and frequent triggering of fight or flight responses. Sessions end with recommendations for simple and effective stretches and exercises to improve strength and resilience between treatments.

As a registered massage therapist, Jennifer witnessed how women’s health suffers from medical systems that focus primarily on male anatomy. Her curiosity sparked and she became passionate about supporting women through massage therapy. Her journey to motherhood taught her the enormous benefits of perinatal care firsthand and gave her a fresh perspective on her clients’ needs and potential treatments – leading to better outcomes.

Jennifer began her career as a Personal Support Worker (PSW) in geriatric health. Her experience working with seniors inspired her to pursue a career where she could more actively help individuals, especially women, improve their health. Jennifer graduated with honours from the International Academy of Massage in 2016 and was awarded the Scott and Sparkes Award for excellence in clinical technique. She has been an active member with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and Registered Massage Therapists' Association of Ontario (RMTAO) since 2017.  In 2019, she completed training in manual lymphatic drainage through the world-renowned Dr. Vodder School. As a healthcare professional, Jennifer believes in the importance of lifelong learning and is dedicated to pursuing the most successful treatment techniques and outcomes available.

FAQ

Do you have online booking?

How often should I be receiving massage therapy treatments?

This answer will be different for everyone and will depend on your goals of treatment. The minimum amount of time between appointment is 24-hours. I have worked with individuals with different treatment frequencies from bi-weekly to every few months.

Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Cupping covered under my insurance?

In Ontario, MLD and cupping is within the scope of a Registered Massage Therapist, meaning it will be billed as a Massage Therapy Treatment. For specific information about your insurance plan, please contact your insurance provider.

What is the purpose of an assessment?

A through assessment helps your therapist to develop a clinical impression on why you may be experiencing discomfort or your chief concern. An assessment also helps to establish a baseline on which progress can be measured.
